Anne M. Steward

June 9, 1930 — March 15, 2017

Anne McSherry Steward died peacefully on March 15th with family by her side. She enjoyed her life immensely. As a young child she was supposed to have her leg amputated and spent over a year in the hospital. My grandmother, a teacher, took advantage of the time and taught her so well that she graduated high school at age 16. Anne then attended the Universities of Oklahoma, Vienna and the Philippians graduating from OU with a degree in accounting. She was the first female CPA for PriceWaterHouse in St. Louis and later started her own CPA firm. She married James Steward and had 4 children, Sherry, David, Anne and Jim. Grandchildren include Missy, Douglas, Jimmy, Ben, Betsy, Jenny, Amy, Jake and Claire. Great grandchildren are Logan, James, Charlee and Mary Evans and 2 more due this year. Anne Steward was a kind, loving and supportive mother and grandmother. No challenge was too big or obstacle to difficult to be overcome.

She was chosen Outstanding Woman of the Year in the 1980s for her business acumen and sang in the choir at UNLV when Barbara Streisand was on stage in Las Vegas. Yes, our mom sang with Babs. Her primary job as a CPA with her company was taking-on the IRS. When she tried to meet with them and they often tried to "stall" by making her wait in the lobby for hours; when this happened she would pull-out her needle-point (a massive full, sized table cloth) spread it across all of the chairs in the room and patiently go to work. Suddenly their schedule would immediately open-up for the meeting. She taught accounting at Lindenwood University for many years and served on the board-of-directors at Epworth Children's Home.

Memorial services are on Saturday April 29th at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Florissant MO at 11AM. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to Ryan White Foundation or Epworth Children's Home.
