Carmella was born May 15, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Frank and Philomena Federika, and was the oldest of 4 children. She graduated from Regina High School in Cincinnati in 1947, and continued on to the Good Samaritan School of Nursing, also in Cincinnati, from which she graduated in 1950.
Carmella was married to William French Rankin on January 27, 1951. They were inseparable for 63 years, until he passed away in August, 2014.
Carmella worked as a Registered Nurse on general ward floors in Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, and the labor and delivery floor in St. Elizabeth Hospital and Kettering Medical Center Hospital in Kettering, Ohio. She finished her career in county health clinics in Kettering. Upon retiring, Carmella and Bill moved to central Florida. She enjoyed playing golf, watching football, sewing, crafting pictures with needle and thread, visits to Walt Disney World, Sea World, and Cypress Gardens, and traveling to spend time with family and friends. They moved to Mandeville, Louisiana in 2012, and she moved to St. Charles after Bill’s passing. She was always very involved in her church wherever she lived, volunteering as a Eucharist Minister and for various church groups. She was kind, compassionate, giving, and always put the needs of others before hers.
