Elmer C. Self, age 95, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living in Creve Coeur, MO. Elmer was born on November 5, 1920 to Cleveland and Elizabeth Self in St.Louis, MO.
Elmer served as a marine in World War II. After the war, he worked as a sheet metal worker until he retired in 1981. He belonged to the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 36.
He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Ruth Self (nee Bresnahan); loving father of Sue (Pete) Bastas, Tim (Ruth) Self, Terry (Cathy) Self, Debby (Mel) Mittendorf, Steve (Laura) Self, Diane (Dan) Dorries. Dear grandfather of Rochelle (Mark) Heitzig, Stacy (Craig)
Pinkerton, Erin (Andy) Black, Lesley (Dan) Maurer, Michelle Self, Kelly Mittendorf, Patrick Self, Amanda Self, Matthew Self, Megan Dorries. Cherished great-grandfather of Reece, Drew, Josie, Bradley, Riley, Isabel, Lauren, Kenlee, Danie, and Nathan.
The family is being served by the Cremation Society of Missouri. A military burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. on August 19, 2016 at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to The American Heart Association.
