Johnston, Gregory F, 42, of St. Louis, MO, died on December 27, 2019.
Greg was born in Houston, MS and graduated from Greenwood High School. He completed a B.S.E. in Social Science Education from Delta State University in 1999 and taught special needs students in Moss Point, MS. He then went to graduate school at Louisiana State University where he earned an M.A. in Political Science in 2004 and a Ph.D. in Political Science in 2006.
Teaching was Greg’s true vocation. He taught at Political Science classes at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, Maryville University, Lindenwood University, and Harris-Stowe University, as well as after-school programs in robotics.
Greg was kind, witty, and loyal. He enjoyed playing chess and video games and was an avid fan of college football. He was a wonderful cook and was enthusiastic about devising new vegan recipes to share with his friends. Social justice and animal welfare issues were very important to him.
Greg is survived by his mother, Gail Johnston, and grandmother, Darlene Fears, uncles, Scott and Kevin Fears, aunt, Julie Moore, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Sam Johnston, and grandparents, Charles Fears and Eugenia and Joe Erber.
An informal memorial gathering for his friends in St. Louis will be held at his home on January 10, 2020. Gatherings with family in Mississippi and North Carolina have not yet been determined.
