Helen Boyd Schlanker, 96, of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, died on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.
Helen Frances Boyd was born on September 24, 1924, in Mexico, MO. She was a daughter of the late Frank and Ruth Bailey Boyd. They lived on a farm northwest of Auxvasse, MO. She attended Boyd Elementary School and graduated from Auxvasse High School. She married James Trabue Schlanker in July 2, 1951. Jim was employed by Kaiser Refractories. They lived many years in Naperville, Illinois, where they raised their son Jay. They later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Helen was active in real estate sales for many years. She was active in volunteer work for her Church and later worked in retail sales at Dillard’s Department stores. Her husband, Jim, died on January 31, 1981. Many years later Helen moved to Glenwood Springs to be with her son, Jay, and his wife, Fran.
Helen is survived by her son, James T. “Jay” Schlanker, Jr.; one brother, Bill Boyd of California. Other survivors include a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Betty Schlanker of Macon, MO.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Jim. Also preceding her in death was Jay’s wife, Fran; one sister, Kathryn McCallum; and by two brothers: Frank Boyd, Jr.; Tom Boyd.
Graveside services will be held at the Montgomery City Cemetery at a later date.
