Imelda Ann Gavin

Imelda Ann Gavin "Ann" as she was known was born in St. Louis and lived all her life in various areas around the city. Sadly, she lost her mother @ age 11 and had a sometimes-difficult upbringing with her father. But Ann persevered and accomplished many things in life.

She became a champion Fly Caster for which she was featured on the cover of the Post Dispatch Sunday magazine together with a lovely full article. By 1961 she was the Women's National Fly Bait and Spin Casting Champion. She was the only woman in America to hold this honor at the time and retained it for five years.

Ann went on to be a success in the Golf world, even being on the LPGA tour. By 1974 she would become the first woman golf pro in the St. Louis area while at the AAA Club in Forest Park. She was an active member at Norwood Hills CC for many years.

But then she discovered an affinity for business and became quite successful in the life insurance business primarily with Metropolitan Life. She moved into management and received many awards and lovely vacations.

Around this time, she was contacted by a cousin, Lucy whom she had known as a child but had lost touch with primarily because of her home situation. This was life changing as Lucy's family welcomed Ann instantly her into their lives. She now had a real family. Being in this family meant that she was always a big part of holidays, vacations and all family happenings. With the family she traveled many times to Door Co, Wisconsin and also Cancun, Naples FL and other destinations.

Also, later in life she found a real church family at The Center For Spiritual Living in West St. Louis County. There she became a very active member taking classes often and contributing in many ways. 

 Ann will be missed by many but never forgotten.
