James Anthony Falk (Jim) of O’Fallon, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 22,2021 at the age of 83. Loving husband of Gloria Falk, (ne: Sorenson). They were married 19 days shy of 58 years. Beloved father of Jeffrey James Falk and former daughter-in-law Nancy J. Falk. Dear Uncle, Great Uncle, Cousin, and Friend to many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin E. and Alice Pabst (ne: Gimpel), stepmom Dorothy Gideon and stepdad Bert Pabst, along with his Aunts Mabel, Antoinette, Ruth, MaryAnn, Margaret, Maxine, Lucille & Bertha.
Jim was born and raised in Decatur, IL. Until he was 7. He moved to St. Louis where he was raised by his father and the sweetest stepmom ever. His dad was a commercial fisherman for a while, and he told many stories about rocking to sleep on the river. Jim’s dad also had a small plane he use to take Jim with him on his trips. Memories of those times stayed with Jim, and he talked about them often.
He was called to duty and joined the Air Force in 1960 and finished his 4 years of service at Grand Forks Air Force base, ND. Where he met his wife, Gloria. Once out of the AF Jim tried selling Family Insurance (a job he was good at but did not like). Being an avid lover of cars, he decided to try selling cars. He really enjoyed informing people about the car they were buying, but he said most of the customers biggest concern was what color does it come in? Engine performance, mileage and other technical information wasn’t really a concern of theirs. Eventually they moved to St. Louis where Jim was a loyal and dedicated employee of Union Electric (now Ameren Missouri) for 33 years. He retired in 1998 and moved to O’Fallon in1999 to be closer to their son. Jim was an avid reader. He delighted in recounting grand and wonderfully embellished stories of his life as he experienced it. He was never short of advice and commentary about the world today and the direction it was headed. He had an enormous capacity to recognize a problem, evaluate it and how to fix it. Although the fixing part would sometimes take a long time to accomplish.
He had a passion for politics, history, finances, and many other areas. He was an armchair “team advisor” to the Cardinals, Blues, and the Rams. Jim was a man of many words. He had a great “gift to gab” as they use to say, and he was a very generous man and helped others out as much as possible.
His humor and quick wit will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He really enjoyed his breakfast meetings with his “buddies” after he retired. They would get together and try to solve the worlds issues. He cherished his friends and his time with them.
Animals of various sorts had an innate ability to always find their way to our home. We have provided food, shelter, veterinary care, and most of all LOVE to many of God’s creatures. I think the “word” traveled quickly in the animal circles as to which house, they should pick to visit. Many kitties & dogs have adopted us through the years.
Our hearts mourn the passing of Jim. We are thankful for the decades of Life with him. He is gone but always loved and never forgotten.
Interment at Jefferson Barracks.
