John Saputo Jr.

Saputo, John of St. Paul, MO died at home on March 10, 2023, surrounded by his family. 

John was born in St. Louis Missouri.  He served as a Navy Seaman First Class during the Korean War.  He celebrated his 90th birthday last September. 

John was married to Carol Ann (nee Proost) on June 8, 1957.  They were married for 58 years. 

He started his career at Tony’s restaurant with Vince and Tony Bommarito when it was just a spaghetti house.  He remained with Tony’s for 37 years.  He was named Waiter of the Year and served many local and national celebrities and athletes. 

John was a true soccer fan.  He played professional soccer at Sportsman Park and was inducted in the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame.  He could often be found taking a carload of kids to the park to play soccer. 

Another passion of his was playing the drums.  He was a drummer in several bands.  He loved cooking, sports, music, and movies, especially cowboy movies.  John never met a stranger and was loved by family and friends. 

He is survived by his son Scott, wife Julie, children Salvatore, Maria and Dominic and daughter Susan, husband Bob and daughter Kyra.  He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, son Steven and grandson Sean. 

Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 21 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (4556 Telegraph Road) with burial immediately following at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. at church.
