Julia Mary Gallagher passed away on December 14, 2020 in St. Charles, MO at the age of 83.
Julia was born on December 22, 1936 in Queens, NY to Robert and Julia Fitzgerald. She married Eugene Gallagher on October 25, 1958, and they lived together in Queens for 38 years.
After Eugene’s death, Julia moved to St. Charles, MO in 1997 to live near her son, Robert. In 2006, she moved in with Robert, his wife Lauren, and their five children.
Julia enjoyed watching detective shows on television, having lunch with friends, shopping, and going on walks. She was independent and adventurous, always opting to take the “scenic route” and exploring new places around town. With her exuberant personality, Julia made friends anywhere she went, from local police officers to grocery store employees. When she wasn’t out, Julia could be found listening to music in her rocking chair on the porch, regardless of the weather.
Julia loved spending time with her grandchildren and making them laugh. She attended as many of their sports games, competitions, and activities as she could, and she always made their holidays extra special. She was the bearer of clothes at Christmas, the Easter egg hider, Fourth of July firework purchaser, and happy birthday singer.
Her family will miss her moxie, humor, candid observations, and spirited storytelling.
Julia is survived by her son Robert (Lauren) Gallagher; her grandchildren, Julia (Paul) Reesor, Ian (Maddie) Gallagher, Courtney (Ben) Chesher, Owen Gallagher, and Hannah Gallagher; her great-grandchildren, Timothy, Logan, Clara (Julia and Paul) and Landon (Ian and Maddie); and her sister Joan Boylan.
She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Julia, her husband Eugene, and her daughter Julia.
A service will be held in the chapel at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Queens, NY.
Julia’s family would like to thank the wonderful teams at BrightStar and VITAS for the exceptional care they provided.
