Obituary of Lois (Schacher) Thornton
Lois Estelle (nee Schacher) Thornton passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016 at her home in St. Louis, Mo after a brief illness.
The first child of the late Herman and Mildred Schacher, Lois was born in Eden, N.Y. on August 28, 1941. An excellent student, she graduated from Eden Central School in 1959. Lois graduated from Keuka College in 1963 with a BS in nursing, and received a MS in Nursing, with a major in Gerontological Nursing from St. Louis University in 1997. As a registered nurse and nursing supervisor, Lois worked within the Veterans Administration Hospital System in Philadelphia, Florida, and most recently in St. Louis, MO where she retired in 2007. She was a compassionate and dedicated caregiver, serving those who had served our country. She felt empathy for her patients and their families. Lois enjoyed local theatrical productions (especially musicals), St. Louis sports teams, and long walks on the beach collecting shells on family vacations.
Lois is succeeded by her husband Albert, her sister Joan Francz and her brothers Donald (Nancy) and Wayne Schacher, her niece Lori Ann Francz, her nephews Dan (Jennifer) and Mark (Cynthia) Schacher, and her Grandniece Samantha Schacher and Grandnephews Jason and Ryan Schacher.
Lois will be buried in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Eden, N.Y. following a Memorial Service at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Lois (Schacher) Thornton may be sent to St. Paul's Lutheran Church (3487 N. Boston Road., Eden, N.Y. 14057)
