Mary Lou Harter

June 3, 1930 — March 14, 2017

Harter, Mary Lou (nee: Downey), of St. Louis, MO, passed away to eternal life on Tuesday March 14, 2017 at the age of 86.  Mary Lou was married to the late Ray K. Harter, Sr. at Little Flower in Richmond Heights on May 22, 1954.   Loving mother of Ray Jr. (Sharon), Mary Jane (James) Egan, Mary Alice (Stephen) Robben, James (Cindy)  and Scott Harter; Cherished Grandmother of  Ray III, Colleen,  Mary Christine, Riley, Ryan, Mary Patricia, James Jr., Anne, Brendan, Claire, Kevin and Daniel. Treasured Great Grandmother of Adelaide, Emma, Libby, Anthony and Quaid.  Beloved daughter of James Joseph Downey and Louise Marie (Kranz). Dearest sister of Mary Virginia Cline (deceased),  Mary Anne Carroll,  Mary Jane Downey aka Sister James Louis, O.P. , Mary Dolores Downey, James Joseph Downey, Jr., James Francis Downey II, Mary Eileen Flores,  James Daniel Downey, James Stephen Downey,  Many aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Mary Lou graduated from Nerinx Hall High School while a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority.  She also attended the Maryville University.  She worked at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Friendship Village & at Boatmen’s Bank with the “Super Set” on various outings. Mary Lou enjoyed traveling the world with the Boatmen's Super Set Club. She was a devoted Mother and we were all blessed to learn many valuable lessons from her.  She enjoyed attending daily mass, weekly hair appointments, a friendly game of bridge & a clean house.   We wish we had more time with her.   While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is a pain and sadness.  But even though she is gone, she has left the legacy of love and perseverance.  The ways she touched our lives will remain, along with the wonderful lessons she gave us.


 


Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday May 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Ascension Catholic Church, 230 Santa Maria Drive, Chesterfield, MO  63005.
