Renate B. Griffin

Renate B. Griffin, 87, of O'Fallon, peacefully passed away Monday, May 23rd.

Born on February 16, 1929 in Marburg Germany, the daughter of the late Dr. Ernst Baars and Dr. Marianne Von Duesberg Baars. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Griffin, whom she married May 9, 1953. After moving to the United States from Germany in 1948, she completed several college classes and worked in banking in Long Branch, New Jersey, the town where she met Robert. After marriage, Renate became a homemaker, mother, a devoted wife, and always took pride in her family. She was active throughout the years with her children's PTA and marching band parent organizations. Once her children were grown, she spent several years joyfully teaching young children to swim at the YMCA in Cumberland, Maryland and Casa Grande, Arizona. Renate enjoyed swimming, sewing, gardening, farming, and traveling.

Renate was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Griffin, son, Brian D. Griffin, and newborn daughter, Karin I. Griffin, as well as brothers: Juergen Baars and Reinhard Baars and sister, Gisela Lehovec.

Surviving are: son, Eric Griffin and son-in-law Mark Rose of York, Pennsylvania; daughter, Krista Griffin of Scottsdale, Arizona; son, Bruce Griffin, daughter-in-law Sherry, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren of Westminster, Maryland; son Kirk Griffin, daughter-in-law Mary and granddaughter Kailey of Scottsdale, Arizona; and daughter Elke Griffin and fiancé George Mitschele of O'Fallon, Missouri.

A ceremony celebrating Renate's life will be held on Monday, June 13th at Llywelyn's Winghaven, 7434 Village Center Drive, O'Fallon from 2 pm to 4 pm.
