Richard L. Gier, born January 8, 1947 in St. Louis, MO, son of the late Carl and Marie (Steffan) Gier, died on March 20, 2016 at St. Clare Hospital, Fenton, MO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rhondalisa (Sauer), a daughter, Stacie Hamilton, and a step-brother, Bruce Steffan. He is survived by his wife Mary Mank, married since August 26, 1988.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by a stepson, Michael Scott (Kim) Connelly of Rensselaer, IN, a granddaughter, Lisa Hamilton, and a grandson, Robert Hamilton, a sister-in-law, Darlene Wadlow and four brothers-in-law, Monsignor Virgil Mank, Billy (Connie) Mank, James (Lynne) Mank, Timothy (Michelle) Mank, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard served in the U.S. Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Letter Carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
A memorial service, with full military honors, will be conducted at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 promptly at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
