Stephanie, 47, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015 of an apparent heart attack at her home in St. Charles, MO.
Stephanie is survived by her wife Melissa (married 16 years); mother Peggy O'Donnell; father Peter Hapke (Nancy); siblings Debbie, Brian, Sebastian (Srey) and Alex (Casey), niece Ariana and a large extended family.
She will be remembered and missed as a loyal friend who was passionate about helping many communities, both as a professional and volunteer.
Stephanie was able to spend much of her life working alongside those she loved. She was a product manager for Chicago's LMRE (Locate My Real Estate), where her sister still works. Prior to that, she was one of the first comment moderators at The Huffington Post and rose to senior product manager on the tech team. Both had left the company, but Stephanie and Melissa worked side-by-side at HuffPost for over five years while based in the St. Louis area.
For the past three years, she had been involved in the ham radio community (call sign WØSVH/SK) and a member of the St. Louis & Suburban Radio Club.
From the Club's bio: "Stephanie was very active in the local amateur community, serving as Webmaster, and I.T. Committee Chair for SLSRC, Life member of ARRL, Examiner for Cliff Cave VE team, and Net Control Operator and Planning Committee member of STL ARES."
ARES is an emergency weather network that provides communication support during disasters. Stephanie and Melissa did their last storm chase together on April 9.
She also supported the American Diabetes Association, Lupus Foundation of America and American Red Cross.
Stephanie grew up and spent many years near Chicago, becoming a life-long Cubs and Bears fan. She was also a LEGO fanatic (AFoL).
In accordance with her wishes, Stephanie will be cremated and have a living tree planted in her honor, likely in Chicago.
Her maternal and paternal grandparents and two maternal uncles and one maternal aunt preceded Stephanie in death.
