Verna Anderson

August 9, 1944 — August 21, 2022

Saint Louis

Verna M. Anderson (formerly of Moline, Illinois) joined her Savior in heaven on August 21, 2022. She was long ready to reunite with family and friends who have gone before, including her parents (Elmer and Hazel), husband (Curt), daughter (Lori), and grandson (Zach). She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, humor, rye bread, chicken casserole, rice pudding and pies. She never met a stranger and won Neighbor of the Year after being nominated by her next-door neighbor, Teresa. She loved hummingbirds, the St. Louis Cardinals, Whitey’s ice cream, and the Hallmark Channel. We will remember her backyard as our wiffle ball stadium, her dining room filled with laughter, her fabulous pies, and her flower gardens as her happy place. God used her to bless us all.

Born in 1944, Verna grew up in Cambridge, Illinois, to Elmer and Hazel Lindquist. She leaves behind a son, Doug Anderson (Kelly); daughters Lisa Merz (George) and Angie Anderson; stepchildren Susan Anderson and Mike Anderson (Deb); grandsons Blake Hughes (Erika), John Anderson (Hayley), and Ethan Anderson; granddaughters Katie Rhodes, Jackie Harper (Ken), and Sara Anderson; great-grandchildren Sierra and Luke Harper; son-in-law Steve Hughes; sister Janet Verscheure (Jerry); sister-like cousin Judy O’Dell (Larry); and many other family members and friends spread throughout her former neighborhood, church, birthplace, and across the country.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 1 at Faith Lutheran Church in Moline, Illinois. The service will be livestreamed on the Faith Lutheran Church Facebook page. Desserts and refreshments will follow. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Curt, in a private ceremony at the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to Faith Lutheran Church (1611 41st Street Moline, IL 61265) or your favorite charity.
