William F. (Bill) Johnson passed away at peace in St. Louis, MO, to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was born in Audubon, New Jersey, September 10,1930 to William F. and Edith K. (nee Lintzmeyer) Johnson, and grew up in Charleston, West Virginia. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the School of Law. He proudly served his country as 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army for two years. Bill met Jacquelyn Gallagher, the love of his life, in Milwaukee while working for Allis-Chalmers, and they were married June 28, 1958. Paul, David, and Beth were all born in Milwaukee but in 1969 Bill transferred the family to St. Louis, MO, to work for AC Electronics, a division of GM. Soon after, he began working at Connecticut General (later CIGNA). Always an avid traveler and a firm believer in the value of visiting friends and relatives far away, he took the family on frequent visits to Michigan, West Virginia, Washington, DC (where his sister Ruth, her husband Bill, and their six children resided).
When they weren’t traveling to their condo and boating at Lake of the Ozarks, hosting countless dear friends, Bill and Jackie took numerous trips in the States, to Europe and also the Holy Land, and cruised Mexico and the Carribean.
Bill was a lover of music and the theater and shared that love with others, either singing in the church choir or crooning with Jackie at the piano, attending St. Louis Symphony concerts, participating in the University of Wisconsin Players theater group, enjoying The Rep Theater and Stages in St. Louis, and later on in life, playing his beloved Ella Fitzergerald on repeat on his “Alexa”.
Bill later married his second wife, Ann, and they often would enjoy back to back cruises and frequent travels to wherever their ‘points’ would take them. Bill rekindled his love of watercolor painting in his later years and proudly displayed and often gifted his work. A diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease led to his move to Mason Pointe Senior Living where he resided until his death.
His gentle smile, warm and kind spirit, and funny wit will be dearly missed.
Bill was predeceased by Jackie in 2008 and his sister Ruth J. Druhan, in 2005. He is survived by his three children Paul, David (Laurie), and Beth Johnson; his two beloved grandchildren Stephen and Katie Johnson, nephews and niece and their children, and numerous dear friends.
A memorial service in his honor will be held Friday, May 24, 10:30 AM at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 13765 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63017
